Sustainability

At Clovelly Public School, we believe that schools needs to give students the opportunity to learn about sustainability and develop into environmentally conscious global citizens.

Sustainability is incorporated in all NSW syllabuses to enable and empower students to make decisions and take actions that contribute to creating a sustainable society and ecosystem.

Solar My School

The schools’ switch to solar was made possible thanks to environmental grants from Waverley Council and Bendigo Community Bank in Clovelly and Purryburry Trust.

Through these grants were were able to utilise the solar my school initiative which aims to make it easier for schools to access more affordable green energy, and contribute to a sustainable local community and environment.

Nude Food Everyday

Nude food is a worldwide initiative  developed to encourage healthy eating and eliminate unnecessary packaging and wrapping that goes into schools.

We encourage all families to support us in creating a rubbish free playground and greener future by providing lunches in wrapper-free packaging. We suggest students use the bento style lunch boxes, beeswax wrapping or smaller re-usable containers.

Garden Program

The Clovelly Public School garden provides an outdoor learning space for our students and a wonderful opportunity to learn about where our food comes from and sustainable garden practices.

Our Stage 3 garden team proudly take care of this space, with other classes accessing it as part of there Science units of work.

Native Bee Hive

Our school is home to a hive of stingless native bees. This hive was funded by the P&C and is located in the native Australian plant garden at the front of the school.

These native bees are studied as part of the Science sustainability units. They provide a real-world safe way for our students to explore, learn and experience the social behaviours of the bee, an awareness of the impact of human activity on the environment and the interdependence of living things.

Battery Recycling

Our school canteen has a battery recycling collection point. Parents can drop old batteries at the canteen at any time.
